Twenty-eight percent of adults report they get fewer hours of sleep per night.  Some people believe that if they are up late, working hard, they in turn burn more calories.  Not the case as a Mayo Clinic study found of 17 healthy volunteers.  Sleep deprived people consume an average of 578 additional calories per day.  This can lead to weight gain.  A pound of fat is equal to 3500 extra calories.  This study suggests that sleep is a powerful factor in how much we eat and our chances of gaining weight.
